Week 2 Part A: Business & Consumers: Communication and Reviews

After reading through a multitude of reviews on businesses such as Amazon and even in the comment sections of YouTube videos, I have definitely noticed patterns in both positive, negative, and solely informative reviews. Since social media websites that platform many businesses coexist with younger demographics, I've found those to be very different from the reviews I would see under Amazon products. On YouTube, review clarity fluctuates as it really just depends on the audience that it attracts. Some videos may be riddled with negative reviews by way of blunt hate comments while others may provide constructive criticism with proper experience. As for my experience with Amazon reviews, I notice a trend of straightforward yet professional tone of comments.

Social media is a great source of notice and attention when needed. I've randomly come across many videos of customers who were dissatisfied with their product, etc, who took their opinions to social media and met a lot of familiar eyes. This is great as there will be times when one voice is not strong enough, so gathering a group of people online who share similar interests to help get a businesses attention could be beneficial. Additionally, social media allows anyone in need to ask questions online with efficient answers through either staff or other people. This is, of course, only if the solution isn't already shared online by a past user.

For me personally, I don't ever leave negative reviews as whenever I'm dissatisfied with a product, I would just return it and forget. In fact, in terms of restaurants, convenience stores, dentistry's, etc, I don't ever leave any sort of reviews at all. The most I would do is run a thought through my head but writing reviews have never really crossed my mind before. This is most definitely a good thing as I am definitely the kind of person to write a hateful rage rant at any "unjust" treatment.

In terms of online reviews however, I definitely leave a lot of them without even consciously knowing. This is probably because I don't really think of it as a "review" and more so just an intrusive opinionated comment. To my own surprise, I actually have quite great self control with commenting on the internet no matter how anonymous my account is. There have been many instances where I have typed out utterly diabolical "reviews" and almost sent it, but reconsidered and scrapped it completely. Nowadays, especially with the rather large audience I have garnered on YouTube, I try to only send out positive reviews/comments.

To answer the fourth prompt of "If it was your own business of social media, how would you respond to positive or negative comments?", I currently do with YouTube and would say I typically just ignore it all. Although constructive criticism is crucial for improvement and growth, I do check in on it once in a while but noticed how ignoring it all makes life much easier!
